Spending a night in the desert under a traditional Berber haima is one of the most unforgettable experiences of a trip through Morocco.
- Itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat
After breakfast we will go to see one of the most famous monuments of Casablanca: the Mosque of Hassan II. Then we will travel to Rabat, imperial city and administrative capital of the Kingdom. Visit to the city of Mechouar (with bastions and walls around the Royal Palace), the Kasbah of the Oudayas and the magnificent Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Hassan II. Hotel / Riad accommodation.
Day 2: Rabat – Vubilis – Fez
Departure in the morning to visit Meknes: the Medina surrounded by bastions, the Jewish quarter and the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis. Accommodation in hotel or riad in Fez.
Day 3: Fes Exploration
A whole day dedicated to visiting Fez, Morocco’s oldest imperial city, founded in the 8th century by Moulay Idriss II. Visit of the Medina, the Attarine Medersas, the Ennajarine Fountain, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss II and the Karawiyin Mosque, as well as the new medina of Fez Jdid. Hotel / Riad accommodation.
Day 4: Fez – Midelt – Erfoud – Dunes De Merzouga
We are heading towards Fez passing through the mountains of the Middle Atlas, we see the famous cedar forests since antiquity. Phoenicians and Romans used cedar wood to build ships and boats and to produce handicrafts and essences. We will pass through Ifran, a Moroccan city in the Swiss style, and Azrou, a typical Berber Zayan village in the Middle Atlas. Then we will go through the Valley and the Gorges of the Ziz to arrive later at the city of Erfoud, in the Eastern Sahara, where we will follow a rocky path that will take us to Merzouga. Hotel accommodation near the dunes of the desert.
Day 5: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga
Day dedicated to discover the eastern Sahara. 4 × 4 jeep tour through the desert: visit the nomads, oases and dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will also go to the village of the Khamlia, dark-skinned people who will delight us with their original music and popular songs of the Gnawa. Then we will return to our accommodation. We will admire the sunset on camelback and spend the night in a Berber jaima in the heart of the dunes. A day full of adventure and culture.
Day 6: Merzouga - Todra Gorges - Ouarzazate
We woke up early to go see the spectacular sunrise on camelback, then return to the hotel to freshen up and have breakfast. We left for Rissani and Tafilalet (origin of the Alaouí dynasty), cities located along the road that leads to the monumental Todra Gorges, overlooking the valley from the hill. We advance in the deep Valley of the Roses, famous for the cultivation of these flowers. We admire the mountains and their colors, the palm groves, the sweet corn fields and the fig trees, as well as the ruins of numerous kasbahs that form part of the itinerary called the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. We arrived in Ouarzazate at the end of the afternoon and stayed in a riad.
Day 7: Ouarzazate - High Atlas - Marrakech
From Ouarzazate we will go to the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, Mother of all the Kasbahs, a beautiful Berber architectural structure from about 800 years ago. From the hill where the settlement is located, you can see the old caravan routes that traveled to Marrakech and the distant veins of the High Atlas mountains. Visit the ruins that reveal the ancient culture of the inhabitants of this kasbah. We will continue along a dirt road rising for more than 8 km until we return to the main road that leads to Marrakech. We will pass through the Valley of the Almond Trees, the Berber Shluh of Amerzgan, Agouim and Ighrem and we will reach the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2260 m s.n.m.). Lunch in the Berber village of Tadart, then we will continue to Marrakech where we will arrive at the end of the afternoon.
Day 7: Visit Guida De Marrakech
After breakfast a guide will accompany the group to visit Marrakech, the pearl of southern Morocco. You will visit the Palaces of the Bay and El Badi, the Saadian Tombs, the reservoir of Menara and many other hidden treasures. Lunch in one of the best traditional restaurants in Marrakech. Then tour to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Djemaa el Fna market square, which is well worth a visit, being one of the main attractions of Marrakech, full of life at night with local storytellers, snake charmers and … Delicious roasts.
Day 9: Marrakech – Casablanca
Transfer to Casablanca at the time agreed, and end of our services.
